DESCRIPTION:View the amazing Perseid Meteor Shower from the dark skies at the Cumming Nature Center! The Perseids are the only major summer meteor shower that we can see from Western New York.\n\nVisitors will learn basic astronomy\, look through telescopes\, and enjoy a spectacular show hosted by outer space. Jim Bader (Director) and Kain McCall (Coordinator) of the Strasenburgh Planetarium\, along with CNC staff member and Earth Scientist Lann will be present to answer questions.\n\nVisitors will check in at the Nature Center before walking a lantern-lit 0.4 mile trail out to a dark viewing area with telescopes and plenty of room to spread out. Visitors are encouraged to bring a blanket to lay on\, warm clothes and bug spray. Please bring a flashlight as the walk back will be pretty dark\, even with the lanterns! This program is family-friendly and for all ages.
